Baby food and baby food abroad: where to find them

Italian moms abroad are always looking for quality products for their children. When living in another country or continent, it can sometimes be difficult to find your favorite products in local supermarkets, especially during the weaning period.

For children, the feeding moment is very important, and when they are not weaned yet, it becomes difficult to understand what they can eat when you are away from home: pasta prepared in the morning in a thermos? Purees from different countries and flavors? Why not, they can definitely be tried, but what if the child doesn’t like them?

Moreover, you have to consider that abroad there isn’t as much attention to baby food as in Italy. The very term “omogeneizzato” is strictly Italian and refers to a type of preparation different from the “puree” or “passata” mentioned abroad, which generally means simply ground food. The homogenization process is more complex and involves both chemistry and mechanics.

Often, we find ourselves searching abroad for the products with which we grew up: Hipp homogenized foods, Alce Nero products, Plasmon and Mellin fruit or meat purees (including beef, lamb, turkey, rabbit, veal, chicken), infant pasta—particularly hard to find, especially for 4-6 months old babies—and Plasmon biscuits for snacks. Homogenized food and safety

In homogenized foods, all parts considered indigestible for babies, such as fruit cellulose, are removed.

Nutritional and vitamin qualities are maintained, but the real taste of foods is lost due to preservatives. For this reason, it is not advisable to eat homogenized foods for long periods but to support the child’s growth also with fresh foods. Always prioritize quality over convenience.

Tests conducted by Altroconsumo have shown that homogenized foods are very strictly controlled compared to other foods, but traces of antibiotics (within legal limits but still present) have sometimes been detected in Nestlé Mio Chicken Homogenized, Mellin Chicken Meat Homogenized.
