E' curti Curti Nocillo walnut liqueur from Vesuvius - 70 cl
The "nucillo ’e curti" has deep roots in ancient traditions: the walnut tree was considered sacred by both the Greeks and Romans, and according to legend, witches would gather under its branches during magical rites. Even today, the harvest of green walnuts takes place on the night of June 24th, during the feast of Saint John, a date tied to the summer solstice and the “miraculous dew” believed to cure all ailments. From these prized walnuts of Vesuvius, a unique infusion is born: the nuts are cut and left to macerate in alcohol and natural flavors inside green glass demijohns, exposed to the summer sun for about 90 days. The infusion is then filtered through traditional Dutch cloth and manually blended with water and sugar, enriched with cloves that enhance its digestive properties, celebrated since the 16th century by the physician Casto Durante de Gualdo. The result, ready in October, is a robust and authentic liqueur, with a full-boded character and an alcohol content never below 50 degrees, affectionately called "nucillo" in Naples and served at the end of meals as a symbol of conviviality and tradition. The "Nucillo" has a monk’s robe brown color. On the nose, it offers distinct aromas of walnuts and cinnamon; on the palate, it is well-balanced, with a proper mix of alcohol and sugar, featuring a pronounced flavor of nutmeg and cinnamon.
