Italians at the stove: cooking from lockdown to today
Are you in Amsterdam and don’t know where to eat real Neapolitan pizza? Vico Food Box is here to help!
Neapolitan pizza abroad is sacred. Italians and foreigners are always on the lookout for authentic flavors, despite the climate and distance.
Today we’ve selected five Neapolitan pizzerias in Amsterdam for you, just as we did for those living in Berlin, the German capital, where you can enjoy true Neapolitan pizza. Being in different places makes it possible to satisfy everyone, wherever they live.
Let’s take a look together:
La Zoccola del Pacioccone
La Zoccola del Pacioccone is located at Nieuwe Nieuwstraat 22, 1012 NH, Amsterdam. The atmosphere is friendly and courteous, but the prices are a bit high (a margherita pizza costs 15 euros). However, considering Amsterdam’s standards, it’s not that bad. The dough is light, the ingredients are high-quality, and judging by customer reviews, it’s “just like in Italy.” The pizza has a high and soft crust, and the beers are craft. Since it’s quite a small place, booking is highly recommended.
Mangiancora
With slightly lower prices (margherita at 11 euros), there’s Mangiancora @mangiancora_fratellicasta, a historic pizzeria in Amsterdam, located at Ferdinand Bolstraat 170, 1072 LT. The pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven, the ingredients are top quality, and the menu is curated by chefs Enrico and Andrea Castaldo.
The pizzeria also offers gluten-free alternatives and vegetarian dishes for customers.
Mangia Pizza
Mangia Pizza by Antonio is located in the city center, between the Heineken Experience and the flower market/Rembrandtplein area, specifically at Vijzelgracht 33, 1017 HN Amsterdam. The pizza has excellent reviews, and the menu prices are in line with other pizzerias, with vegan and vegetarian options available.
Fuoco Vivo
Fuoco Vivo pizzeria is particularly appreciated for its pizzas and traditional Neapolitan desserts, especially tiramisu. It is located at De Clercqstraat 12, 1052 NC Amsterdam, and judging by customer reviews, the prices are fair in relation to the quality of the ingredients (margherita at 10.50 euros). The pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven, and the menu, in addition to pizzas, offers a wide selection of appetizers, bitters, and liqueurs.
nNea Pizza
nNea Pizza was founded in 2019 and has had a series of sold-out bookings ever since. The pizzeria offers two dinner shifts: one at a more Northern European time, and the other typical of Southern Italy (after 8:00 PM). The name stands for New Neapolis, or new Naples. Creator Vincenzo Onnembo pursues excellence and delicious flavors, together with his two partners Limau Chen and Salvatore Lioniello.
The pizza dough is very light (about 30 hours of leavening), the ingredients are top quality, and the atmosphere is very friendly. Prices are reasonable (margherita pizza at 9.50 euros). Booking is strongly recommended.
