Italkali was founded in 1980 as Società Italiana Sali Alcalini by EMSAMS, Montedison and ANIC with the aim of relaunching and managing the production of potassium sulphate and mineral salts from Sicilian mines, strategic resources for the national economy. The choice of a mixed public-private structure testifies to the importance of salt as an essential raw material for human nutrition, the chemical industry, fertilizers and water treatment. In 2015 the transition to completely private property was complete, while maintaining strong Sicilian territorial roots. Over the course of over five decades expands production capacity, logistics coverage and diversifies portfolio serving over 6,000 annual customers. Today it operates five plants, handling over 30,000 annual deliveries, producing more than 2 million tons of minerals, positioning itself among the largest European players in the sector.
